Not that long ago musicians used to pound the sidewalk with photos and demos in hand. If they lucked out, the band would ink a record contract and receive the promotional power of the record label to build fans. Indie musicians have always been different. Rappers choose to make their songs away from the mainstream. Today independent musicians have a straight link with their listeners. They do have to make their songs, but high tech has evened the playing field there as well.

Today’s computer music software allows independent artists to produce their songs at lower costs, without the help of major record companies.  The major difference from the past, is the rise of music sites committed to selling independent songs. A standard account grants rappers the opportunity to sell music under one umbrella. Indie rappers are able to sell photographs, and receive up to 90% of all receipts. To succeed, artists are no longer depending only on word getting out. Instead, artists can quickly reach out to those who want to purchase indie band’s music.

Many artists have MySpace pages. Musicians who have made videos may also upload them on Vimeo. A lot of independent artists use social networking as one aspect of their promotional labors. Usually, the web site does the marketing that brings those who want to get indie musicians song recordings. Truly independent rap music lovers are mainly the ones that supports these kinds of websites. Listeners can play rap music and clips from their favorite independent musicians, and also find new rappers. At the end of the day, the musicians and listeners come out happy.
